Fearless and ruthless, one of the most wanted criminals during his time, Abdul Latif was a pain for the law enforcement agencies. He was booked in over 40 cases that included kidnapping, murder and was also a suspect in 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blast case.
Who was Abdul Latif?
Latif started his ‘career’ by serving alcohol when he was a teenager. He slowly entered the criminal world and became a small-time bootlegger. He was an alleged associate of Dawood Ibrahim who is still on the list of most wanted criminals. Latif had his base located in Ahmedabad and had strong political connections. His name was feared in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Daman, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Karachi, and Dubai. His connections were so strong during his active years that he remained out of jail for a long period of time.
Latif was gunned down by ‘unknown personals’ and most of the people think that he was encountered while he was trying to escape but police reports do not clear the air. The upcoming movie Raees is based on his life and had been targeted for the same reason. Latif’s son Mushtaq Sheikh is a politician and he had sent a legal notice to the makers claiming that they have no right to make a film on his father’s name.
Mushtaq’s lawyer said that in the notice they have mentioned that it is true that Latif had cases against him under several IPCs but in the movie, it is shown that he ran abrothel and used women for his business which is not true and derogatory for his image. He also said that Latif was a real life Robinhood who spent a lot of his money on charity work.
On the other hand, the makers of the film are claiming that the film is a total piece of fiction and has no connection with any person, living or dead. They have declared the same while applying for the censor board certificate as well. Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming movie Raees is one of the most anticipated movies of 2017 and it is believed that this film will create a benchmark for the future releases.
In the light of so many controversies connected to the film, it has become a ‘must watch’ for the upcoming holidays. Shot in the background of 1980s the movie will definitely make the viewers remain on the edge of their seats.
