Age Requirement :
  • Minimum Age: 10 years and above
  • Experience: Having past experience of trekking surely helps. Prior experience with multi-day treks is recommended. If the participants have any medical condition, it is highly recommended to be consulted by doctor and also please inform us beforehand so we can arrange the logistics accordingly. Beginners and First-time Trekkers: Suitable for beginners looking for a moderate and beautiful Himalayan trekking experience with a spectacular glacier encounter in stunning Kashmir.
  • Fitness: Any medical condition needs to be disclosed 10 days prior to the trek. Not suitable for those with serious medical conditions including severe heart conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, and chronic respiratory issues.
Fitness Criteria
  • The Trekker should have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km of distance by jogging in 35 minutes without stress or 10 km of distance in 80 minutes without stress.
  • If the trekker wants to carry a backpack then he/she should be able to carry a 10-12 kg backpack. If opting for Off-load option then the trekker should be able to carry a 3-5 kg backpack.
  • If a trekker's BMI is more or less than the normal range (18-29), please consult our Trek Coordinator before booking.

How to Reach

Options to Reach

By Air:Nearest airport is Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport, Srinagar. Direct flights available from Delhi, Mumbai, and other major Indian cities to Srinagar. From Srinagar airport, hire a taxi to Sonamarg (approximately 3 hours, 87 km).
By Road:Direct buses and taxis available from Srinagar to Sonamarg (approximately 87 km, 3 hours). Sonamarg is well connected by the Srinagar-Leh National Highway.
From Sonamarg:Sonamarg is the starting point of the Thajiwas Glacier Trek. Your trek leader will guide you from Sonamarg on Day 1.

By Train

Nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi Railway Station. From Jammu, take a bus or taxi to Srinagar (approximately 8-9 hours) and then to Sonamarg.

Journey Itinerary

Day 1
Srinagar to Sonamarg
You will drive approximately 87 km (approximately 3 hours) from Srinagar to reach the picturesque Sonamarg town. Begin your trek through lush meadows to reach the basecamp.
Day 2
Basecamp to Thajiwas Glacier
You will trek approximately 9 km (approximately 4-5 hours) through stunning alpine meadows and rocky terrain to reach the magnificent Thajiwas Glacier at an altitude of 13,000 ft.
Day 3
Thajiwas Glacier to Sonamarg
You will trek approximately 9 km (approximately 4-5 hours) descending back to Sonamarg through scenic mountain trails and enjoy stunning views of the Kashmir Valley.
Day 4
Sonamarg - Return to Srinagar
Explore Sonamarg town and surrounding meadows, then drive back approximately 87 km (approximately 3 hours) to Srinagar.

Kids Guidelines

  • Junior trekkers (below 10 years) are not allowed on this trek.
  • Trekkers between 10 to 15 years should have a company of parents/guardians at all times.
  • Trekkers between 15 to 18 years can come solo with the disclaimer form signed by parent/guardian.
  • Trek is not suitable for kids with high blood pressure or heart conditions.
