Madhe Ghat Trek
Rs. 5000 per personBeyond Adventure
- Madhe Ghat Trek is a beautiful and invigorating adventure in the Pune district of Maharashtra, offering trekkers a journey through one of the most scenic sections of the Sahyadri escarpment to the dramatic edge of the Western Ghats, where the land drops steeply from the Deccan plateau to the Konkan coastal plain far below. Madhe Ghat, located approximately 40 kilometers from Pune near the Mulshi region, is particularly famous for the spectacular waterfall that cascades down the face of the escarpment during the monsoon season, one of the finest waterfalls in Maharashtra and a sight of overwhelming natural drama.
- The approach to Madhe Ghat passes through the villages and farmland of the Pune plateau before entering the forest zone of the upper Sahyadri. The route is particularly beautiful during the monsoon season, when the entire landscape is washed in vivid green and the sound of rushing water accompanies the trekker at every step. The forest above Madhe Ghat is dense and lush, a typical Western Ghats tropical forest that supports a rich diversity of flora and fauna. The bird life is particularly notable, with the area being home to several endemic Ghats species that are found nowhere else in the world.
- The viewpoint at the Ghat edge is one of the most dramatic in the Pune region, with the land dropping away in a series of steep escarpments to the coastal plain hundreds of meters below. The view on a clear day encompasses the entire sweep of the coastal landscape, from the forested Konkan hills in the north and south to the distant blue of the Arabian Sea on the western horizon. The waterfall that plunges from the Ghat edge during the monsoon is visible from considerable distance, its white cascade contrasting magnificently with the surrounding green rock faces.
- The Madhe Ghat Trek is an excellent choice for those seeking a half-day or full-day adventure from Pune that combines natural beauty with a moderate physical challenge. The accessibility of the destination, combined with the dramatic scenery of the escarpment and the refreshing forest walk, makes it a popular destination for Pune trekking enthusiasts throughout the year. The monsoon season offers the most spectacular visual experience, while the winter months provide clearer views of the coastal panorama and more comfortable walking conditions on the trails.
