Poon Hill Trek

- Poon Hill Trek is one of the most celebrated short trekking experiences in Nepal, offering relatively accessible but genuinely magnificent Himalayan panoramas from the famous viewpoint at Poon Hill, which stands at 3,210 meters in the Annapurna foothills and provides one of the finest sunrise views in the entire Annapurna region. The trek is typically completed in four to five days from Pokhara, following the classic Ghorepani Poon Hill circuit through the Annapurna Conservation Area, and is widely recommended as the ideal introduction to Himalayan trekking for those undertaking their first Nepal adventure.
- The trail to Poon Hill passes through some of the most beautiful village landscapes in the Annapurna region, with the Magar and Gurung communities of the Ghorepani area maintaining traditional architectural styles and agricultural practices that are deeply connected to the mountain landscape. The terraced fields, carved from the hillsides over generations of careful cultivation, create a landscape of ordered beauty that reflects centuries of intimate human engagement with the natural world. The villages along the route, with their stone houses, prayer wheels, and flowering gardens, are models of vernacular architecture that blend seamlessly with their natural surroundings.
- The rhododendron forests of the Ghorepani area are among the most spectacular in Nepal, with enormous trees of deep red, pink, and white blooms creating a spectacle of natural color that makes the spring trekking season, from late March to mid-May, particularly magical. The entire hillside between Tadapani and Ghorepani is clothed in rhododendron forest, and walking through this floral landscape on a clear spring morning, with the white peaks of the Annapurna range visible above and the valley far below, is an experience of natural beauty that is both deeply moving and joyfully celebratory.
- The sunrise ascent to Poon Hill from Ghorepani is an experience that has become one of the most famous in Himalayan trekking, and for very good reason. Starting in the dark of pre-dawn, guided by headlamps through the sleeping village and up the stone-stepped path to the summit, trekkers gather at the hilltop tower to witness the progressive illumination of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges as the sun rises behind the distant eastern hills. The peaks include Dhaulagiri, the world's seventh-highest mountain, the entire Annapurna range from Annapurna South to Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, and numerous other summits, creating a panorama of Himalayan grandeur that includes more high peaks than almost any other single viewpoint in Nepal.
