Beyond Adventure

  •  The Sahastra Tal Trek is a profound 9-day high-altitude odyssey that represents the pinnacle of wilderness exploration in the Garhwal Himalayas. Rising to a formidable altitude of 4,600 meters (15,091 feet) in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, this journey is a gateway into a hidden world of water, stone, and ancient myth. Clustered along a dramatic ridgeline between the Bhagirathi and Bhilangana Valleys, Sahastra Tal is the sovereign of a chain of seven sacred lakes. This is a trek for the soul-seeker and the seasoned adventurer—a journey into a landscape so rich in alpine beauty that the legendary mountaineer Bill Aitken famously christened it the "Lake District of Garhwal."

WHO CAN JOIN

Age Requirement :
  • Minimum Age: 16 years and above
  • Experience: Prior high-altitude trekking experience above 3,500 m is strongly recommended for this trek. At least one or two previous Himalayan treks are highly advisable before attempting this route. The long daily distances, sustained altitude, and remote wilderness character of the trail demand good physical and mental fitness. If participants have any medical condition, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor and inform us in advance so we can arrange logistics accordingly. Experienced Trekkers: Best suited for trekkers with prior high-altitude experience above 3,500 m who are seeking a genuinely challenging, remote, and rewarding Garhwal Himalayan lake trek far from the crowds of more frequented routes.
  • Fitness: Pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiac issues, knee problems, or chronic respiratory disorders should be disclosed before joining. Participants with a history of altitude sickness should consult a doctor before booking. The trek reaches 4,600 m in a very remote area with no medical facilities — all participants must be in sound health before setting out.
Fitness Criteria
  • The trekker should have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km by jogging in 35 minutes without stress.
  • If the trekker wants to carry a backpack, he/she should be able to carry a 10–12 kg backpack.
  • If a trekker's BMI is more or less than the normal range (18–29), please consult our Trek Coordinator before booking.
