At an staggering altitude of 4,550 meters (14,927 feet), the trek culminates at the sapphire shores of Tso Moriri, the largest high-altitude lake entirely within Indian territory.The journey begins in Leh, the historic heartbeat of Ladakh. Before the first step is taken on the trail, the trekker is enveloped in a world of stark contrasts. Leh sits at 3,500 meters, where the air is thin and the sun carries a physical weight.
- The Sensory Prelude: The town is a sensory tapestry of fluttering colorful prayer flags (Lungta), the smell of toasted barley (Tsampa), and the distant chime of monastery bells.Acclimatization: This phase is critical. The barren, jagged silhouettes of the Ladakh Range hem the town in, serving as a constant reminder of the vertical wilderness that lies ahead. The starkness of the landscape—devoid of trees but rich in mineral hues of purple, ochre, and grey—prepares the mind for the extraterrestrial beauty of the Changthang.As the trek leaves the Indus Valley and moves toward the remote interior, the geography shifts into the Changthang Plateau. This is a landscape defined by its vastness.The Geologic Grandeur: You walk through ancient river valleys where the earth has been folded and twisted by tectonic forces over millions of years. - The Silence of the High Plains: On the Changthang, silence is a physical presence. The wind, sweeping across the salt-crusted plains, is the only constant companion. The scale of the mountains here is deceptive; peaks that look like small hills are often over 6,000 meters high, their summits dusted with "perpetual silver" (eternal snow).Perhaps the most culturally significant element of the Tso Moriri Trek is the encounter with the Changpa community. To see their black yak-hair tents (Rebo) pitched against the desolate horizon is to witness a lifestyle that has defied modernity for millennia.
- The Pashmina Heritage: These resilient nomads herd the famous Changthangi goats, the source of the world’s finest Pashmina wool. - The Shifting Colors: The lake is a "liquid chameleon." Depending on the angle of the sun, the water shifts from a pale turquoise to a deep, brooding sapphire, and finally to a brilliant emerald at sunset. The water is so clear that the reflection of the Gya and Chamser Kangri peaks is indistinguishable from the peaks themselves.A Sanctuary of Life: Despite the harsh alkalinity and altitude, the lake is a Ramsar Wetland of global importance. Age Requirement :
- Minimum Age: 12 years and above
- Experience: Basic level of trekking experience is recommended. Having past experience of trekking surely helps. If the participants have any medical condition, it is highly recommended to be consulted by doctor and also please inform us beforehand so we can arrange the logistics accordingly. Adventure Seekers: Suitable for those looking for a moderately challenging high-altitude trek through the dramatic and remote landscapes of Ladakh.
- Fitness: Not suitable for those with heart or lung disease, severe allergies, high blood pressure, or chronic respiratory issues. Medical consultation is recommended before joining this trek.
Fitness Criteria
- The Trekker should have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km of distance by jogging in 35 minutes without stress or 10 km of distance in 80 minutes without stress.
- If the trekker wants to carry a backpack then he/she should be able to carry a 10-12 kg backpack. If opting for Off-load option then the trekker should be able to carry a 3-5 kg backpack.
- If a trekker's BMI is more or less than the normal range (18-29), please consult our Trek Coordinator before booking.

How to Reach
Options to Reach
By Air:Nearest airport is Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh. Direct flights available from Delhi, Mumbai, and other major Indian cities to Leh. This is the recommended and most convenient way to reach Leh.
By Road:Leh is accessible by road from Manali via the Manali-Leh Highway (approximately 479 km, 2 days) or from Srinagar via the Srinagar-Leh Highway (approximately 434 km, 1-2 days). Both roads are open only during summer months (June to October).
From Leh:Leh is the starting point of the Tso Moriri Trek. Your trek leader will guide you from Leh on Day 1.

Journey Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Leh - Acclimatization
Arrive in Leh, meet your trek leader and fellow trekkers. Rest and acclimatization day to adjust to the high altitude of 11,500 ft.
Day 2
Leh to Chokdo
You will trek approximately 12 km (approximately 5-6 hours) from Leh through dramatic Ladakh landscape to reach Chokdo campsite.
Day 3
Chokdo to Korzok
You will trek approximately 15 km (approximately 6-7 hours) through vast high-altitude plains and nomadic Changpa settlements to reach the traditional village of Korzok.
Day 4
Rest Day at Korzok
Spend the day exploring Korzok village, visit the ancient Korzok Monastery, and interact with the nomadic Changpa community.
Day 5
Trek to Tso Moriri Lake
You will trek approximately 8 km (approximately 3-4 hours) to reach the magnificent Tso Moriri lake at an altitude of 4,550 m (14,928 ft). Enjoy breathtaking views of the shimmering lake.
Day 6
Explore Around Tso Moriri Lake
Full day exploration around the beautiful Tso Moriri lake. Spot rare birds including bar-headed geese and black-necked cranes.
Day 7
Return Journey to Leh
Drive back approximately 240 km (approximately 7-8 hours) from Tso Moriri to Leh through dramatic Ladakh landscape.

- • Junior trekkers (below 12 years) are not allowed on this trek due to high altitude.
- • Trekkers between 12 to 15 years should have a company of parents/guardians at all times.
- • Trekkers between 15 to 18 years can come solo with the disclaimer form signed by parent/guardian.
