The Golden Temple Amritsar Darshan is a deeply moving pilgrimage to the holiest shrine of the Sikh faith — the Sri Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple, located in the sacred city of Amritsar in Punjab. Built in the 16th century by Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru, the Golden Temple is an architectural marvel and a symbol of equality, humanity, and divine grace.
The temple is built on a raised platform in the centre of the sacred Amrit Sarovar (Pool of Nectar), connected to the main complex by a 60-metre causeway known as the Guru's Bridge. The lower half of the temple is built of white marble adorned with intricate floral and arabesque inlays, while the upper half is plated with approximately 750 kilograms of pure gold — giving it its iconic golden glow. The mesmerizing reflection of the golden temple in the sacred pool, especially during sunrise and sunset, creates an image of unparalleled beauty and spiritual splendour.
The langar (community kitchen) at the Golden Temple, which serves free meals to over 100,000 people every day regardless of caste, creed, or religion, is the largest free kitchen in the world and represents the Sikh values of seva (selfless service) and equality. The Wagah Border ceremony and the Jallianwala Bagh memorial are other significant sites that complete the Amritsar experience.
