Kolhapur Mahalakshmi Temple Tour
Overview
Beyond Pilgrimage
- The Kolhapur Mahalakshmi Temple Tour is a sacred and auspicious pilgrimage to the revered Mahalakshmi Temple in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, one of the six sacred Shakti Peethas in India and a site of immense spiritual significance for devotees of Goddess Lakshmi. This ancient temple, believed to be over 1,300 years old, is dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi in her most benevolent and powerful form, and draws lakhs of devotees from across Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Goa every year who come to seek her blessings for wealth, prosperity, health, and fulfilment of wishes.
- The presiding deity of the temple, Goddess Mahalakshmi, is worshipped here as Ambabai, and her idol is a stunning four-armed stone image adorned with precious jewellery and traditional attire that changes with the seasons. One of the most extraordinary phenomena associated with this temple is the Kirnotsav, a celestial event that occurs three times a year when the rays of the setting sun fall directly on the idol of the goddess, bathing it in golden light for a few magical minutes. This event draws massive crowds of devotees and is considered one of the most auspicious sights in all of Indian pilgrimage culture.
- The temple is built in the Hemadpanthi style of architecture and is surrounded by a large complex with tanks, smaller shrines, and beautifully maintained gardens. Devotees can participate in the daily Mahapooja, Kakad Aarti, and Shej Aarti rituals that are performed at the temple with great devotion and ceremony. The town of Kolhapur itself is steeped in royal heritage and cultural richness, with its historic palaces, bustling markets, and vibrant traditions adding to the overall experience of the pilgrimage.
- Pilgrims from all over India visit the Kolhapur Mahalakshmi Temple believing that a darshan of Ambabai fulfils all desires and removes all obstacles from one's path. The Kolhapur Mahalakshmi Temple Tour is a journey that combines deep spirituality with cultural richness, offering every devotee an unforgettable experience of divine grace, royal heritage, and the boundless love of Goddess Mahalakshmi.
