Varanasi Kashi Vishwanath Yatra
Overview
Beyond Pilgrimage
- The Varanasi Kashi Vishwanath Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage to one of the oldest living cities in the world — Varanasi, also known as Kashi or Banaras, situated on the western banks of the holy Ganges River in Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi is considered the most sacred city in Hinduism and is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva himself.
- The Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is the heart and soul of this ancient city and is believed to grant moksha (liberation) to all who receive darshan here. The newly built Kashi Vishwanath Corridor has transformed the temple complex into a grand spiritual destination, offering devotees an unparalleled experience of darshan with a breathtaking view of the Ganges in the background. The famous Dashashwamedh Ghat Ganga Aarti, held every evening at sunset, is a spectacular and deeply moving ritual where priests perform aarti with large flaming diyas to the accompaniment of bells, conches, and devotional music — a sight that leaves every visitor spellbound.
- Varanasi is also home to 84 ghats along the river, each carrying its own spiritual significance. The Manikarnika Ghat, the Assi Ghat, the Panchganga Ghat, and the Scindia Ghat are among the most revered. Taking a sunrise boat ride on the Ganges and witnessing the awakening of this ancient city is an experience that transcends all description and connects pilgrims directly with the eternal.
