- The forest surrounding the Kalu Waterfall is a typical Western Ghats ecosystem of considerable ecological significance. The Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, adjacent to the camping area, provides habitat for the Indian giant squirrel, one of the most spectacular and endangered rodents in the world, as well as numerous other endemic species of the Western Ghats. Bird watching at the campsite and in the surrounding forest is excellent, with the area supporting several species found only in the Western Ghats and many other commonly encountered forest birds that provide a constant soundtrack of natural sound.

Fitness Good physical fitness and endurance is mandatory to enjoy the experience to its fullest without any hurdles.
Fitness Criteria
1. A basic jogging requirement is the ability to maintain a light to moderate jog for 3–5 km without exhaustion, joint pain, or dizziness. The person should demonstrate controlled breathing and adequate stamina throughout the activity.
2. A basic cycling fitness requirement includes maintaining a steady pace for moderate distances while showing good leg endurance and rapid recovery after stopping.
3. A minimum requirement is the capacity to walk with a loaded backpack for extended periods while maintaining proper posture and manageable fatigue, indicating adequate core and upper-body endurance.
4. A BMI within the range of 18.5 to below 30 is typically required for trekking activities, with the expectation that individuals outside this range may face increased physical stress and may not be permitted on moderate to difficult treks.
