- Kuari Pass Trek, also known as the Curzon Trail after Lord Curzon who is said to have trekked this route during his viceroyalty of India, is one of the great classic Himalayan treks of the Garhwal region, offering a sustained and magnificent engagement with some of the finest mountain scenery in the entire western Himalayan chain. The pass itself, situated at an elevation of approximately 3,640 meters, provides a panoramic viewpoint of legendary quality, with the peaks of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Dronagiri, Hathi Ghoda, and the Kedarnath range all visible in a single sweeping panorama that is arguably the finest mountain view accessible to non-mountaineers in the entire Indian Himalayan region.
- The trek begins from Joshimath in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, a town that serves as a base for several important trekking and pilgrimage routes and where the ancient temple of Narsingh, one of the Char Dham pilgrim sites, adds a dimension of spiritual significance to the journey's beginning. From Joshimath, the trail climbs steadily through the village of Tugasi and enters the forests above, which are composed of magnificent oaks, maples, and rhododendrons that create a cathedral-like atmosphere in their interweaving canopy. The bird life of these forests is exceptional, with the area supporting a remarkable diversity of Himalayan species.
- The meadows above the forest zone are among the most beautiful in Garhwal. Gorson Bugyal, reached on the second day of the trek, is a vast expanse of open grassland at an elevation of around 3,000 meters that offers the first unobstructed views of the Himalayan peaks and signals the transition from the enclosed world of the forest to the open grandeur of the high alpine zone. Camping at Gorson is an experience of peaceful magnificence, with the evening light painting the surrounding peaks in shades of gold and rose before the temperature drops with the setting sun and the sky fills with an extraordinary display of stars.
- The crossing of the Kuari Pass on the third or fourth day of the trek is the emotional and scenic climax of the journey. The view from the pass encompasses a panorama of Himalayan peaks of breathtaking extent and quality. Nanda Devi, India's highest peak at 7,816 meters and a mountain of almost mythological significance in the culture of the Garhwal Himalaya, dominates the northeastern horizon, her twin summits connected by a high ridge that gleams white against the deep blue of the high-altitude sky. The sense of standing in the presence of something vast and ancient and immeasurably powerful is overwhelming.
- The descent from Kuari Pass passes through more beautiful forest and meadow terrain before reaching the road at Tapovan or Auli, the ski resort village above Joshimath. The Kuari Pass Trek is an experience that reveals the Garhwal Himalaya at their most magnificent and accessible, combining physical challenge with scenic reward in a proportion that satisfies the deepest aspirations of the mountain traveler.

Fitness Criteria
1. The trekker should have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km of distance in 35 minutes without stress.
3. Trekkers should be able to carry an 8-10 kg backpack; if opting for off-loading, a 3 kg daypack is sufficient.
4. If a trekker's BMI is outside the normal range (18-29), please consult our Trek Coordinator before booking.
