The nearby presence of the great Raigad Fort, the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's empire, adds a historical dimension to this remarkable adventure.
- The approach to Lingana is typically made from the Raigad Fort area, with the trek passing through the historical remains of the Maratha capital before descending to the base of the pinnacle. Raigad Fort itself is a destination of enormous historical significance, the site where Shivaji Maharaj was crowned Chhatrapati, King of the Marathas, in 1674, and the fort where he died in 1680. The historical weight of this association, combined with the magnificent natural setting of the fort on its plateau surrounded by sheer cliffs, creates an atmosphere of dramatic intensity that is perfect preparation for the physical challenge of the Lingana ascent.

Fitness Criteria
1. A basic jogging requirement is the ability to maintain a light to moderate jog for 3–5 km without exhaustion, joint pain, or dizziness. The person should demonstrate controlled breathing and adequate stamina throughout the activity.
2. The individual should be able to carry a backpack weighing approximately 20–25% of their body weight for 1–2 hours while walking, without experiencing shoulder strain, back pain, or imbalance.
3. A basic cycling fitness requirement includes maintaining a steady pace for moderate distances while showing good leg endurance and rapid recovery after stopping.
4. A BMI within the range of 18.5 to below 30 is typically required for trekking activities, with the expectation that individuals outside this range may face increased physical stress and may not be permitted on moderate to difficult treks.
