- Mangi Tungi Trek is a remarkable trekking and pilgrimage experience in the Nashik district of Maharashtra, combining the spiritual significance of one of the most important Jain pilgrimage sites in India with the physical challenge and scenic rewards of ascending twin rocky peaks that rise dramatically from the Sahyadri landscape to heights of approximately 1,300 meters. The twin peaks of Mangi and Tungi, connected by a narrow col and surrounded by sheer rock faces, are sacred to the Jain faith as the site of nirvana of a large number of Jain saints, making the climb to their summits an act of religious devotion as well as a trekking adventure.
- The historical and religious significance of Mangi Tungi is extraordinary. According to Jain tradition, more than 99 crore Jain saints attained nirvana or moksha from these twin peaks, making the site one of the most sacred in the entire Jain world. The government of Maharashtra and the Jain community have collaborated to carve a flight of approximately 1,200 steps into the rock face of the peaks, making the ascent accessible to pilgrims of all ages and fitness levels while preserving the character of the natural rock landscape. The presence of Jain monks and pilgrims on the steps at all times of day creates a spiritual atmosphere that is felt even by non-religious visitors.
- The view from the summits of Mangi and Tungi is magnificent, encompassing a wide panorama of the Northern Sahyadri landscape with the Tapi River valley visible in the distance and the characteristic flat-topped mesas and forested ridges of this part of the Western Ghats extending in every direction. The geology of the Mangi Tungi peaks is particularly striking, with the sheer basalt columns that form the rock faces displaying the characteristic vertical jointing patterns of the Deccan Trap formation that underlies the entire Sahyadri range. Fitness Criteria
1. The person should be physically fit to jog for a sustained duration without excessive fatigue, showing sufficient cardiovascular endurance and lower-body strength necessary for outdoor physical activities.
2. A minimum requirement is the capacity to walk with a loaded backpack for extended periods while maintaining proper posture and manageable fatigue, indicating adequate core and upper-body endurance.
3. The individual should be able to cycle continuously for 30–60 minutes on flat or mildly uneven terrain without severe exhaustion, knee pain, or breathing distress.
4. A BMI within the range of 18.5 to below 30 is typically required for trekking activities, with the expectation that individuals outside this range may face increased physical stress and may not be permitted on moderate to difficult treks.

Begin the ascent early, climbing the long series of stone steps leading toward the twin hills. The steady climb rewards trekkers with wide views of the surrounding landscape before reaching the temple complex at the top.
