  • The Mount Harmukh Expedition is a 10-day high-altitude mountaineering odyssey that represents the pinnacle of climbing in the Kashmir Himalayas. Rising to a formidable 5,142 meters (16,870 feet), Mount Harmukh is not merely a mountain; it is a monolith of history, spirituality, and geography. Located in the Ganderbal district, this massive block of granite and ice dominates the northern horizon of the Kashmir Valley. To climb Harmukh is to trace the footsteps of ancient pilgrims and legendary surveyors alike, traversing a landscape where the "Eiger of Kashmir" reflects its terrifying beauty into the turquoise depths of the sacred Gangabal Lake.

Age Requirement
Minimum Age 18 years and above
Experience Prior trekking experience at high altitudes above 4,000 m is strongly recommended. Familiarity with crampons, ice axe handling, and basic rope techniques is highly advantageous. If participants have any medical condition, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor and inform us in advance so we can arrange logistics accordingly.
Fitness Pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiac issues, chronic respiratory disorders, or any history of acute mountain sickness must be disclosed before joining. This expedition involves sustained exertion at altitude and is not suitable for individuals with unmanaged serious health conditions.
Fitness Criteria
1. The trekker should have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km by jogging in 35 minutes without stress or cover 10 km in 80 minutes without stress.
3. If the trekker wants to carry a backpack, he/she should be able to carry a 12–15 kg backpack.
4. If a trekker's BMI is more or less than the normal range (18–29), please consult our Trek Coordinator before booking.

Options to Reach

Flexible travel choices

By Air: Fly into Srinagar International Airport (SXR), well connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chandigarh. Transport from Srinagar to Naranag is arranged by the expedition team on Day 1.

By Train:

Nearest major railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station, well connected to Delhi and other major cities. From Jammu, take a bus or taxi to Srinagar (approximately 8–9 hours). Banihal Railway Station is also an option with a 2-hour taxi ride to Srinagar.

Journey Itinerary

Day 01
You will drive approximately 60 km (approximately 2 hours) to reach an altitude of 2,100 m at Naranag.
Day 02
You will trek approximately 11 km (approximately 6 hours) to reach an altitude of 3,200 m at Trunkhol Meadow.
Day 03
You will trek approximately 8 km (approximately 4–5 hours) to reach an altitude of 3,575 m at Gangabal Lake.
Day 04
Rest and acclimatization day at Gangabal Lake Base Camp at an altitude of 3,575 m.
Day 05
You will trek approximately 6 km (approximately 4–5 hours) to reach an altitude of 4,200 m at Advanced Base Camp on Harmukh Glacier.
Day 06
You will climb approximately 4 km (approximately 3–4 hours) to ferry loads to High Camp at an altitude of 4,700 m and return to Advanced Base Camp.
Day 07
You will trek approximately 4 km (approximately 3–4 hours) to reach an altitude of 4,700 m at High Camp on the upper Harmukh Glacier.
Day 08
You will ascend approximately 5 km (approximately 6–8 hours) to reach the summit of Mount Harmukh at an altitude of 5,142 m (16,870 ft) and descend to Gangabal Lake Base Camp.
Day 09
You will descend approximately 19 km (approximately 6–7 hours) to Naranag and drive back to Srinagar.
Day 10
Drive to Srinagar Airport for departure, expedition concludes with unforgettable memories of Kashmir's sacred summit.

Kids Guidelines

Children below 18 years are not recommended for this expedition due to technical mountaineering terrain and extreme altitude.

Trekkers between 16 to 18 years may be considered only with prior high-altitude trekking experience and a disclaimer form signed by parent/guardian.
