  • The Nichnai Pass Trek is a breathtakingly beautiful and deeply rewarding 6-day moderate trek through the stunning and enchanting landscapes of the Kashmir Valley in Jammu and Kashmir. This extraordinary trek is part of the legendary Kashmir Great Lakes circuit and takes you on an unforgettable journey through some of the most spectacular alpine landscapes in the entire Indian Himalayas.The trek begins from the picturesque and historically significant town of Sonamarg, nestled in the heart of the Kashmir Valley and surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks, lush green meadows, and sparkling glacial streams. As you begin your ascent from Sonamarg, the trail winds through dense forests of pine and fir, past rushing mountain streams, and through open meadows bursting with a spectacular variety of colorful wildflowers that paint the landscape in vibrant hues during the summer months.

Minimum Age 10 to 65 years
Experience Having past experience of trekking surely helps. No previous trekking experience is mandatory but helpful. If the participants have any medical condition, it is highly recommended to be consulted by doctor and also please inform us beforehand so we can arrange the logistics accordingly. Beginners and First-time Trekkers: Suitable for beginners looking for a moderate and beautiful Himalayan trekking experience in the stunning Kashmir Valley.
Fitness Pre-existence of hypertension, heart disease, or other health issues may need to be declared in advance. Not suitable for those with serious medical conditions. Consult your doctor before joining the trek.
Fitness Criteria
1. The Trekker should have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km of distance by jogging in 35 minutes without stress or 10 km of distance in 80 minutes without stress.
3. If the trekker wants to carry a backpack then he/she should be able to carry a 10-12 kg backpack. If opting for Off-load option then the trekker should be able to carry a 3-5 kg backpack.
4. If a trekker's BMI is more or less than the normal range (18-29), please consult our Trek Coordinator before booking.

Flexible travel choices

By Air:Nearest airport is Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport, Srinagar. From Srinagar airport, hire a taxi to Sonamarg (approximately 3 hours).
From Sonamarg:
Sonamarg is the starting point of the Nichnai Pass Trek. Your trek leader will guide you from Sonamarg on Day 1.

By Train:

Take a train to Jammu Tawi railway station. From Jammu, take a bus or taxi to Srinagar (approximately 8-9 hours). From Srinagar, drive to Sonamarg (approximately 3 hours).

By Bus:

Direct buses available from Jammu to Srinagar. From Srinagar, local buses and taxis available to Sonamarg.

Journey Itinerary

Day 01
You will drive approximately 87 km (approximately 3 hours) from Srinagar to reach the beautiful town of Sonamarg in the Kashmir Valley.
Day 02
You will trek approximately 10 km (approximately 5-6 hours) from Sonamarg through dense pine forests and scenic mountain trails to reach the stunning Nichnai Meadows.
Day 03
Rest and acclimatization day at Nichnai Meadows. Explore the stunning alpine meadows, wildflowers, and enjoy panoramic views of the Kashmir Valley.
Day 04
Early morning trek approximately 8 km (approximately 5-6 hours) to cross the magnificent Nichnai Pass at an altitude of 13,100 ft (3,993 m). Enjoy stunning 360-degree panoramic views and begin descent to camp.
Day 05
You will trek approximately 10 km (approximately 5-6 hours) through beautiful alpine meadows and forests back toward the valley.
Day 06
You will trek approximately 8 km (approximately 4-5 hours) completing the final leg back to Sonamarg, then drive approximately 87 km (approximately 3 hours) back to Srinagar.

Kids Guidelines

Junior trekkers (below 10 years) are not allowed on this trek.

Trekkers between 10 to 15 years should have a company of parents/guardians at all times.

Trekkers between 15 to 18 years can come solo with the disclaimer form signed by parent/guardian.

Trek is not suitable for kids with high blood pressure or heart conditions.
