  • Rupin Pass Trek is widely celebrated as one of the most diverse and visually spectacular treks in the Indian Himalayas, packing an astonishing variety of landscapes, ecosystems, and cultural encounters into a journey of approximately seven to eight days that crosses the high Rupin Pass at an elevation of 4,650 meters. The trek begins in Dhaula in Uttarakhand and ends in Sangla in Himachal Pradesh, or vice versa, making it a genuine cross-state adventure that traverses some of the most remote and beautiful terrain in the northwestern Himalayas. The diversity of the trekking experience is exceptional, ranging from dense forests and cascading waterfalls in the lower sections to open snow fields and dramatic high-altitude passes at the top.

Minimum Age 18 - 55 years
Experience Experienced trekkers, adventure enthusiasts, and those who are willing to face physical challenges. Prior experience in trekking is recommended. Trekkers must know basic survival skills such as finding food, water and shelter during emergencies
Fitness Good physical fitness, prior experience in trekking, acclimatization in high altitude, ability to adapt to changing weather conditions and physical stress. Cardiovascular disease, severe respiratory disorders, neurological conditions or chronic backpain can hamper the participant's ability to complete the trek.
Fitness Criteria
1. The individual must be capable of jogging continuously for at least 20–30 minutes at a steady pace without frequent breaks, extreme breathlessness, or discomfort. Heart rate and breathing should return to near normal within a few minutes after stopping.
2. The individual should be able to cycle continuously for 30–60 minutes on flat or mildly uneven terrain without severe exhaustion, knee pain, or breathing distress.
3. The individual should be able to carry a backpack weighing approximately 20–25% of their body weight for 1–2 hours while walking, without experiencing shoulder strain, back pain, or imbalance.
4. Participants are generally required to have a BMI between 18.5 and 29.9 to be considered fit for trekking, as this range is commonly accepted for managing endurance, load carrying, and altitude-related strain during treks.

Flexible travel choices

The nearest rail head is Dehradun. From Dehradun, take a taxi or bus to Dhaula, the starting point of the trek. It takes around 10-12 hours to reach Dhaula from Dehradun. Alternatively, trekkers can use public transportation from nearby cities like Syana and Purola, but this requires planning and research to reach the starting point.

Rupin Pass and base (3950 m), Descend to Osla (2600 m) via Baggi (3600 m), and then to Upper Waterfall (3400 m)

Upper Waterfall (3400 m), Descend to Seruwa (2650 m), and then Dhaula (2100 m)
Day 06
Dhaula (2100 m), Rest Day, and return Trek
Day 07
Sarpani Thatch (2600 m), Dhaula (2100 m), and return to Dhaulax

Sarpani Thatch (2600 m), Dhaula (2100 m), and return to Dhaula and Departure
