Sinhagad Trek

Beyond Adventure

  • The Sinhagad Trek is far more than a physical ascent; it is a pilgrimage into the heroic heart of Maratha history. Rising to a commanding height of 1,312 meters (4,304 feet), this fortress stands as a silent sentinel on an isolated cliff of the Bhuleshwar Range within the Western Ghats. Located just 30 kilometers southwest of Pune, Sinhagad is a site of profound emotional and strategic gravity. From its ancient origins as "Kondhana" to its immortalization as the "Lion’s Fort," this trek offers a vertical journey through two millennia of conflict, courage, and the birth of a nation’s pride. The trek commences at the base village of Donje, where the urban sprawl of Pune fades into the rugged, basaltic beauty of the Sahyadris. The Vertical Grind: The trail is a classic Sahyadri experience—a 5.5-kilometer climb that gains nearly 600 meters in elevation. The path winds through a "Green Fortress" of indigenous deciduous forest. During the monsoon, the trail is transformed into a world of mist and moss, with small seasonal waterfalls cascading down the dark rock faces.
