Spanning a rewarding 5 days through the heart of West Sikkim, this trek leads to the Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary, a 104 sq km biological treasure trove perched at 3,060 meters (10,039 feet) along the legendary Singalila Range. Situated at the crossroads of Nepal and West Bengal, Varsey is a realm where the third-highest mountain on Earth, Mount Kangchenjunga, keeps watch over a forest that, for a few months each year, ignites with a floral brilliance unmatched anywhere in the Eastern Himalayas.The odyssey begins in Okhrey, a tranquil and mist-shrouded village that serves as the gateway to the high sanctuary.

Minimum Age 5 to 65 years
Experience No prior trekking experience is required for this trek. The Varsey trail is gentle, well-marked, and suitable for complete beginners and families. Having any past experience of walking in forested or hilly terrain adds comfort but is not essential. If participants have any medical condition, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor and inform us in advance so we can arrange logistics accordingly.
Fitness Pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiac issues, or chronic respiratory disorders should be declared before joining the trek. This is a low-altitude, gentle forest trek and is one of the most accessible Himalayan treks for those with moderate health considerations. However, participants with serious unmanaged health conditions should consult a doctor before booking.
Fitness Criteria
1. The trekker should have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km by jogging in 35 minutes without stress.
3. If the trekker wants to carry a backpack, he/she should be able to carry a 8–10 kg backpack.
4. If a trekker's BMI is more or less than the normal range (18–29), please consult our Trek Coordinator before booking.

By Air: Nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport (IXB), approximately 12 km from NJP/Siliguri, well connected to Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai. From Bagdogra Airport, hire a taxi to NJP or Siliguri. Transport to Okhrey is arranged by the trek team on Day 1.
By Train
New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and Siliguri Junction Railway Stations are the nearest railheads, well connected to Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and all major cities. From NJP or Siliguri, the drive to Okhrey in West Sikkim takes approximately 5–6 hours by private taxi or shared vehicle.

You will drive approximately 130 km (approximately 5–6 hours) from New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri to reach the charming village of Okhrey in West Sikkim at an altitude of 1,830 m, trek briefing and overnight stay at Okhrey homestay.

You will trek approximately 9 km (approximately 4–5 hours) from Okhrey through cardamom plantations and dense forest to Hilley (2,900 m) for spectacular Kangchenjunga views, then continue 4 km to reach Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary at an altitude of 3,060 m (10,039 ft).

Full day exploring the Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary (3,060 m) — rhododendron forest walks, birdwatching for Himalayan Monal and Satyr Tragopan, optional hike toward Chew Bhanjyang (Indo-Nepal border), overnight at Varsey trekkers hut.

You will trek approximately 11 km (approximately 5–6 hours) from Varsey back through Hilley and descend through rich forest toward Dentam village in West Sikkim at an altitude of 1,480 m, overnight stay at Dentam homestay.

You will drive approximately 140 km (approximately 5–6 hours) from Dentam back to New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri, trek concludes with unforgettable memories of Sikkim's extraordinary rhododendron wilderness.
