- The journey commences at Shitkadi, a tranquil settlement nestled on the banks of the Sind River.Situated just 6 kilometers from the famous hill station of Sonamarg, Shitkadi acts as the atmospheric gateway to the high wilderness.The Alpine Prelude: The air here is thin, crisp, and heavy with the scent of wet pine and woodsmoke. As you leave the trailhead, you are immediately greeted by the roar of the Sind River, a powerful glacial torrent that has carved the very soul of this valley.The Vertical Forest: The initial ascent leads through dense stands of Silver Fir and Pine. These woods are the lungs of the Ganderbal district, creating a cool, shaded corridor where the sunlight filters through the canopy in sharp, golden needles. As you gain altitude, you enter the meadows of Shukdar, where the rare Bhoj trees (Himalayan Birch) begin to appear, their white bark peeling like ancient parchment against the emerald grass.
- From the forested slopes, the trail follows the Nichnai Stream upward into a dramatic alpine amphitheater.The Meadow of Echoes: The overnight camp at Nichnai (3,500m) is a vast, open basin where the scale of the Himalayas becomes humbling. Looking forward, the descent reveals a hidden world of glacial pools and flower-carpeted meadows.The Sight of the Sacred: As you descend toward the valley floor, the shimmering blue expanse of Vishansar Lake suddenly erupts into view. After the monochromatic struggle of the pass, the sight of this vibrant sapphire jewel is so unexpectedly beautiful that it creates a moment of pure, silent awe.The climax of the expedition is the rest day spent at the shores of the twin lakes, Vishansar and Krishansar.
- The Lake of Vishnu: Vishansar is an oligotrophic marvel. Its waters are so clear that the Brown Trout can be seen darting amongst the submerged rocks. The lake undergoes a "Chromatic Metamorphosis" throughout the day: a deep sapphire at dawn, a luminous turquoise at noon, and a shimmering liquid gold at sunset.The Lake of Krishna: Just a short, steep climb above Vishansar lies its sister lake, Krishansar. Named after Lord Krishna, this lake sits at a slightly higher elevation and is equally pristine. Surrounded by towering peaks that reflect in its mirror-still surface, the twin lakes represent a divine symmetry. Standing between them, with the Gadsar Pass looming in the distance, you feel as though you have reached the very center of the Himalayan universe.The Vishansar region is a critical ecological sanctuary, home to rare Himalayan flora and the elusive Himalayan Marmot. Minimum Age 10 years and above
Experience Prior trekking experience at moderate altitude is recommended for this trek. The Nichnai Pass crossing at 4,100 m requires a reasonable level of fitness and altitude awareness. Having any past high-altitude trekking experience above 3,000 m adds confidence and safety on this route. If participants have any medical condition, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor and inform us in advance so we can arrange logistics accordingly.
Experienced Trekkers: Well suited for trekkers with prior high-altitude experience who are seeking a moderately challenging Kashmir alpine lake adventure through dramatic pass crossings and pristine glacial lake terrain.
Fitness Pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiac issues, or chronic respiratory disorders should be disclosed before joining the trek. Participants with a history of altitude sickness should consult a doctor before booking. The trek crosses a pass at 4,100 m and is not suitable for those with serious unmanaged health conditions.
Fitness Criteria
1. The trekker should have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km by jogging in 35 minutes without stress.
3. If the trekker wants to carry a backpack, he/she should be able to carry a 10–12 kg backpack.
4. If a trekker's BMI is more or less than the normal range (18–29), please consult our Trek Coordinator before booking.

Flexible travel choices
By Air: Fly into Srinagar International Airport (SXR), well connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chandigarh. Transport from Srinagar to Shitkadi via Sonamarg is arranged by the trek team on Day 1.
By Train
Nearest major railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station, well connected to Delhi and all major cities. From Jammu, take a bus or taxi to Srinagar (approximately 8–9 hours). Banihal Railway Station (Udhampur–Baramulla Rail Link) is closer, with a 2-hour taxi ride to Srinagar.
